| Grand Island Senior High School |

“Any city would be proud of a public high school building such as the one at Grand Island, shown on the reverse side of this card.” That was the message on this postcard, and it was certainly true in its day. Unfortunately, the building’s fate is now in doubt since its sale to a Lincoln Developer. Despite repeated promises, the building continues to deteriorate with no end in sight.

One of 29 regional facilities authorized by Congress at the conclusion of WWII to serve the needs of the returning veteran population, the VA Hospital in Grand Island has served Western Nebraska for over 50 years. This photos shows the handsome facility soon after it was built.

St. Mary’s Cathedral as built in 1928. The Gothic Revival Cathedral is made of sandstone and features an altar of white Italian marble. St. Mary’s School is visible to the right of the Cathedral.
