Airstream Trailer Rally, 1968
Grand Island was proud to host the 11th Annual Wally Byam Caravan Club International Rally in June of 1968. A staggering total of 2,017 Airstream trailers got together at Fonner Park for the weekend. To get a feel for the size of this unusual gathering, Fonner Park is visible at the top of the photo, and each silver mark in the photo is actually two Airstream trailers. As if by magic, Nebraska weather rose to the occasion, and 2,017 poorly tied-down trailers spent the majority of the weekend under the threat of an almost constant series of tornado warnings.

Everyone Loves a Parade . . . (3 Views)
Three views of an unidentified parade down Third Street in the 1920’s. Notice the alarming height of the manhole cover in the second photo, and the ornate building in photo #3 is the Coney Island before it was remodeled in the 1930’s.

Kiddie Parade
Undated photo, probably from the 1920’s judging from the cars. The kids in the center of the card are holding pumpkins, so perhaps it’s a Halloween Parade.

Parade Flower Car
“Greetings from Central Nebraska Agricultural Fair” is the headline of this postcard showing the entry from Kaufmann’s 5c and 10c Store. Lavender and whote chrysanthemums decorated the car. Date unknown. Note the gent with the derby hat and the woman inside the automobile.

Interior, State Bank (1915)
The interior of the State Bank of Grand Island where 4% interest was paid on time certificates and safe deposit boxes were just $1.00 per year. Never a financial success, the bank merged with Grand Island’s First National Bank in 1925. The building shown in the photo was demolished in 1925 to make room a new bank building at the corner of Third and Locust.
